Climate CLIL

Pilot Phase: Bannammin school and Rajanukrao school

What is CLIL?

Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is a dual-focused educational approach. We use English as a medium to teach environmental science. This allows students to develop critical language skills while solving real-world climate challenges.

The Scientific Framework

Adopted from Nine Language School (9LS), this curriculum was co-developed by Dr. Siripoon Nutanong (9LS director) and Dr. Mark Herse (Ecologist, KU) and currently under review by OPEC (Office of Private Education Commission). It aims to spark environmental curiosity through English language learning.

Scalable Operations

DEEP is adapting this course for rural schools in Phayao. We are launching two pilot sites this May at Bannammin School (โรงเรียนบ้านน้ำมิน) in Chiang Kham district and Rajanukrao School (โรงเรียนราชานุเคราะห์) in Pong district. The curriculum is designed to cover foundational environmental knowledge, raise awareness, and discuss mitigation and adaptation solutions in both local and global contexts, ultimately empowering youth to participate in global climate action. We integrate English language learning with hands-on, gamified activities to spark a deeper interest in environmental education.

Regional Expansion

We are currently applying for the ONEP (ENVfund) to scale this program from Bannammin and Rajanukrao to schools across Chiang Kham, Pong, and Phusang districts.
